Baguio City prepares for summer vacation and Lenten season

The city government this early has started to prepare to welcome hundreds of visitors during the summer vacation and Lenten Season here. Baguio City tourism officer Benny Alhambra said the yearly exodus of tourists here is in keeping with the role of Baguio as “Summer Capital of the Philippines”.

At churches here, many of the faithfuls have already started to observe Lent activities with the observance of Ash Wednesday.

“Once more we ask the cooperation of our residents in Baguio to welcome our visitors coming here for the summer break and Holy Week.

“The stream of visitors to our city is at its peak since December. We should be happy for this as it shows our country to be peaceful and beautiful,” he said.

Alhambra said that there was a tremendous increase of visitors here since the last quarter of 2010. However, the actual number of visitors is yet to be made official by the Department of Tourism.
