Caticlan jetty port administrator Nieven Maquirang said the MS Super Star Gemini will arrive on Oct 17 followed by another cruise ship MS Super Star Aquarius, both under the international cruise line Star Cruises.

Maquirang said both ships have more than 1,500 aboard with a complement of more than 1,000 crew members.

Apart from the two ships, another luxury liner is expected to visit Boracay Island on Dec 31 for the tourists to witness the yearly fireworks display which is one of the attractions in the island resort in welcoming the New Year.

A team from the Star Cruises is also scheduled to meet with the Dept. of Tourism-Boracay, local government unit of Malay, Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine Tourism Authority, stakeholders and other concerned agencies in preparation for the arrival of the these cruise ships in Boracay Island.

Maquirang said they would like to strengthen cruise ship activities in the island particularly now that the trend in tourism industry throughout the world had its shift on the so-called cruise ship tourism.

He added the provincial government of Aklan are also expecting around eight cruise ship liners to be visiting Boracay Island until year 2015.

In 2012, two Royal Carribean cruise ships made a stop-over in Boracay and in early part of 2013, the MS Europa which earned the monicker as the best cruise ship in the world also visited the island paradise with MS Columbus 2 followed suit for the same year. (PNA)
