Early rain showers make Baguio Cold weather more appealing to visitors

The cloudy skies and brief rain showers here Wednesday made the cool weather more appealing to the visitors from foreign countries like Australia and Europe, according to the city tourism office (CTO).

Gabby Keith of the CTO said “our monitoring indicates that we continue to have a good number of local and foreign visitors at this time of the year especially with parents of returning students for their summer classes.”

Baguio City

Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) explained that the early rain showers were brought by passing clouds in the area due to a system called “high pressure” northeast of Luzon.

Baguio temperature ranges from 14 to 26 degrees celsius with the least expected rain showers and cloudy periods.

In past years, unexpected rains during hot months of the year here happened that the residents were not surprised with the brief downpour this morning especially at the central business district.

Although the prolonged drought known as “El Niño” phenomenon has caused the city to experience 30 degrees celsius as the highest temperature this year, the maximum temperature since last week had already lowered to 25 to 26 degrees celsius.

He asked the provincial legislative body to pass a resolution to articulate the gratitude of the people of Albay.

“Aside from being the parochial pride of Albayanos, the inclusion of Mayon, the country’s most iconic natural endowment in the new currency will go a long way in promoting Albay tourism without having to see Mayon erupt to attract tourists,” Salceda said. Continue Reading

Holy Week vacationers visits historic Vigan City

Thousands of devotees and tourists flocked this week to Vigan City, the world’s sole heritage city, packing to the rafters all hotels and transient houses here since Maundy Thursday.  City Tourism Officer Edgar Dela Cruz said the city government is making arrangements for accommodating as many visitors as possible.

“We are now coordinating with owners of hotels and transient houses outside the city to accommodate there the other devotees and tourists who arrived and are still arriving,” said Vigan City Tourism Officer Edgar dela Cruz.

Among the city’s top crowd drawers are historic St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, the Vigan heritage village where century-old houses are located and the historic “pagburnayan” village.

Visitors can also avail of cruises along historic Mestizo River and experience being transformed in time while walking across Vigan’s villages where traces of old Ilocano culture remain.

On Maundy Thursday, when celebration of the Lenten Season’s ‘triduum’ began, Catholic devotees crowded all churches in Ilocos Sur province.

This started the devotees’ three-day abstinence to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Most churches in Ilocos Sur were built during the Spanish period.

Spain introduced Catholicism to the Philippines.(
