Albay Governor Joey Salceda was elated and thankful to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. for putting the image of Mayon Volcano in the new peso bills that will soon be circulated.

He asked the provincial legislative body to pass a resolution to articulate the gratitude of the people of Albay.

“Aside from being the parochial pride of Albayanos, the inclusion of Mayon, the country’s most iconic natural endowment in the new currency will go a long way in promoting Albay tourism without having to see Mayon erupt to attract tourists,” Salceda said.

According to the governor, putting Mayon Volcano in the peso bills is a laudable move.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has yet to announce in what specific denomination it will appear.

Albay board member and chair committee on tourism Glenda Bongao said her committee is now drafting the proposed resolution to express the gratitude of the people of Albay.

Department of Tourism (DOT) regional director Maria Ong Ravanilla said whatever denomination it is would not matter. “That is a good idea for recognizing Mayon Volcano as one of the best attractions not only in the Philippines but in the world.”

“Inclusion of Mayon in peso bills will totally boost the tourism industry of Bicol region specifically the province of Albay,” Ravanilla saiVolV
