The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) are launching free jeepney rides in selected Metro Manila areas as the Philippines prepares to host the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings.

The initiative aims to help Filipino commuters while promoting Philippine tourism, culture, and destinations through a uniquely local transportation experience.
The free rides will run from November 5 to 14, 2026, following the ceremonial signing of a tripartite agreement involving the participating government agencies.
Free Jeepney Routes and Operating Hours
A total of 30 modern jeepneys will operate on two major Metro Manila routes, with 15 vehicles assigned to each.
Commuters can enjoy free round-trip rides along the following routes:
| Route | Coverage | Number of Jeepneys |
|---|---|---|
| North Route | SM Fairview to Buendia | 15 |
| South Route | Sucat to Baclaran | 15 |
The free jeepney services will operate daily from 4 AM to 10 PM throughout the program.
The North Route will accommodate eight one-way trips, while the South Route will offer 10 one-way trips.
As transportation costs continue to affect everyday commuters, the initiative gives passengers a chance to save on travel expenses while navigating key areas of Metro Manila.
Jeepneys Showcase Philippine Tourism and Culture
Beyond providing free transportation, the modern jeepneys will serve as moving tourism promotions for the Philippines.
The vehicles will feature images of iconic Philippine tourist destinations, cultural festivals, and travel experiences, highlighting the country’s tourism offerings to commuters and international visitors.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy of using the ASEAN Summit to promote the Philippines as a destination for international travelers.
According to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the participating routes serve an average of 12,500 passengers daily. The program is expected to help commuters get to work while ensuring participating drivers and transport workers continue to earn during its implementation.

She added that the DOT continues to collaborate with government agencies to showcase the country’s destinations while creating meaningful experiences for visitors, delegates, and stakeholders.
DOTr Supports Whole-of-Government ASEAN Initiatives
