The Department of Tourism (DOT) is giving all out support to the promotion domestic tourism through the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) in September, organized by Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA).
“Our partnership with PHILTOA has been very fruitful over the years especially in relation to our joint staging of the annual PTM. Exhibitors reported generating over P18.5 million pesos in on-site sales alone last year, which tells us that our public is eager to travel within the country,” said Secretary Alberto A. Lim.
Held in partnership with the DOT, the PTM is the country’s premiere tourism trade show exclusively showcasing local tourist destinations. Last year, some 143,535 buyers flocked to the three-day event for various tour packages on offer from exhibitors occupying some 346 booths.
The consumer promotion, now on its 22nd year, will feature a Sale ng Bayan on domestic tour packages and Biyahe-Info tourism seminars for students. Cultural presentations and an eco-chorale competition among high school and college choir groups will provide event entertainment.
A sneak peek of the event was made available at PHILTOA’s celebration of its 25th year in the industry last July, where it also unveiled its list of the Top Ten Luxe Destinations for 2011. The list includes three properties in Cebu, two in Boracay and one each in Bicol, Bohol, Marinduque, Palawan and Tagaytay.
PHILTOA is the largest association of registered inbound and domestic tour operators with allied members in the airline, hotel and tour transportation sectors.
The Philippine Travel Mart runs from September 1 to 4, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. For details, visit www.philtoa.org.
