Amadeo “Coffee Capital of the Philippines”

More than 80 percent or 3,913 hectares of the 4,790 land area of Amadeo are planted with coffee, thus without doubt, the abundance of coffee makes it as the coffee capital of the Philippines.

Because of its immense potential for economic growth, Gov. Jonvic Remulla and the different cooperatives including coffee experts have put great emphasis on the province’s coffee industry.

The provincial government earmarked an initial funding of P5 million for the development of close to 1,200 hectares of coffee plantation under the “Adopt-a-Coffee Farm” program in the upland areas of the province, particularly in the towns of Amadeo, Alfonso, Indang and Bailen (Emilio Aguinaldo) to attract potential private individuals into coffee growing business and continue the trade of the commodity. Benguet’s Ambuklao dam fast becoming a tourist attraction

Municipal Vice Mayor Rey Telio Friday said the wide fringes of Ambuklao dam here since a year ago have become one of the favorite destinations of tourists.

Telio said that most of the visitors, especially during summer season, are those who love outdoor activities like picnics where they relish the locally-grilled fresh “tilapia”, carp and other fresh water fishes.

Baguio City prepares for summer vacation and Lenten season

The city government this early has started to prepare to welcome hundreds of visitors during the summer vacation and Lenten Season here. Baguio City tourism officer Benny Alhambra said the yearly exodus of tourists here is in keeping with the role of Baguio as “Summer Capital of the Philippines”.

At churches here, many of the faithfuls have already started to observe Lent activities with the observance of Ash Wednesday.

“Once more we ask the cooperation of our residents in Baguio to welcome our visitors coming here for the summer break and Holy Week.

“The stream of visitors to our city is at its peak since December. We should be happy for this as it shows our country to be peaceful and beautiful,” he said.

Alhambra said that there was a tremendous increase of visitors here since the last quarter of 2010. However, the actual number of visitors is yet to be made official by the Department of Tourism.

Palawan’s private island looks for ecotourism partners
