While the world of employment has really had to change and evolve to accommodate some rather unique skill sets and job requirements, for the most part people are spending a lot more time working virtually than they ever have before. While we saw in the seventies, eighties and nineties, a sort of longing for a secure brick and mortar work place, things have really changed on the work front both for the employer and the employee.
We traditionally associated an office or fixed external office place to be the most prominent sign of job security but things have changed drastically.
Now we don’t place as much emphasis on the physical work space and we focus most of our energies on a more virtual work space.
What is a virtual workspace? Well, we’re seeing more and more employers creating and facilitating the ability to work from anywhere, be it at home, while on a business trip, while at a conference or even while at a dinner.
The entire workplace has gone online via the internet and the fixation to be in one place is pretty much out the door. Why have employers embraced this seemingly anti-establishment way of operating? For one thing, it is a lot more cost effective. Continue reading Have Reputation – Will Travel
The process of rehabilitation is a long and arduous one and some may even argue that it is even more challenging than being addicted to substances themselves. For the addict, when in the throes of their habit, being it drinking alcohol, snorting cocaine, injecting heroin or smoking crystal meth, they are in a euphoric state.
The prospect of rehabilitation means a complete disconnect with the thing they love the most and nothing about that seems attractive.
While some addicts are partially lucid, most exist in a constant state of false reality whereby they are not in touch with what they are actually doing or what is actually happening to them. The average person cannot deal with an addict.
As family members, friends and loved ones of the people who are addicted in our lives, it is very difficult to divorce ourselves from feeling the need to save them. Continue reading Readying for Rehab
Traveling can wreak havoc on any weight loss goal. You are out of your daily routine, and oftentimes in a place where you don’t have instant access to the types of foods you are accustomed to. In fact, it’s not uncommon to come back from vacation with an extra five pounds. This is very discouraging if you are actively trying to lose weight. To prevent a leisurely vacation from sabotaging your weight loss goals, consider a few tips to keep you on track.
Keep Up the Nutrition
When you travel, it’s easy to want to try all the fried foods and sweets you can get your hands on. They’re delicious and convenient, and many people consume these foods with a justification that they deserve them because they are on vacation.
While vacation certainly is a time to lay back and relax, this type of mentality will derail your weight loss goals. It is best to stick with low-fat, nutritious foods that won’t sabotage your diet. Even if you don’t have a nutrition label, you can still guess at a food’s nutritional value by how it’s cooked and what ingredients are in it. Hone in on meals with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and low levels of salt. Also avoid fried foods at all costs.
Increase Your Activity Level
Whether you’re traveling for business or are on a vacation, you will need to keep up your activity levels in order to achieve your weight loss goals. If you are super active at home, you should keep up the work while traveling. This doesn’t mean you need to get a one-week gym membership in the town you’re staying in. Taking walks in new neighborhoods, swimming, bicycling and doing push-ups are all ways you can keep fit while traveling away from home. Plus, this will make you feel more energized after a long plane ride. Continue reading How to Maintain Your Diet When Traveling
Menopause for women who are either in the throes of it or for those who are on its cusp is a really touchy subject. What we read about it in magazines and online, and even the fun that’s poked at it in movies and tv shows all leads up to one glaring conclusion – menopause is hell! While some may say you can look forward to a normal month without the painful, messy hassles of having a menstrual cycle, this is replaced by hormones out of whack hot flashes that leave you suffering in Mexico and changes in your body and skin that you may not be prepared for – some women say.
While these claims may be subject to opinion as every woman experiences them differently there is a fact that cannot be denied – menopause symptoms and side effects often come on strong and quickly, with a very small and rapidly closing window for transition. A decreased or sporadic menstrual cycle is just one of the red flags (pardon the pun) but there are others that can be a bit more aggressive.
Before you’re actually classified as a menopausal woman you have the delightful fun of experiencing its precursory stage known as Perimenopause. Some women will have the unfettered joy of experiencing perimenopause as early as their later thirty’s or early forty’s. In fact, it is well documented that a lucky 70% of women will undoubtedly have the pleasure of experiencing both perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. If it helps, maybe this statistic might offer some comfort so you know you’re not alone in the torture! Other prominent and frequently occurring symptoms include loss or decrease of your sex drive vaginal dryness, weight gain, swelling in joints and spikes in blood pressure which may lead to migraines. There is still a great downplaying of the true effects and experience of alcoholism in today’s society. While sometimes it is sensationalized in the media, the effects of this addiction are very real and can be detrimental to families and societies around the country.
Alcohol is glorified in our media as a necessity, as a way to have fun, as a way to be cool ad as a way to connect with other people. While these premises have been used for other things like sports and fashion, alcohol is not the best contender.
In fact, it is one of the worse. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic, which should be stated with clarity. Not everyone who gets drunk is an alcoholic either.
Too much alcohol for your capacity will do that – it will get you drunk but some people are able to move on past inebriation and conduct safe, normal, fulfilling lives.
For others however, it is not that simple. Alcoholism is an addiction to alcohol, or rather an addiction to the escape from the sense that alcohol provides. This isn’t like driving a fast car or bungee jumping; it isn’t just about getting a thrill. What alcoholism speaks to is a deep psychological need to fill a particular void or numb oneself from feeling anything at all. Continue reading Lending a Helping Hand Through Addiction
