Cebu wins best honeymoon destination award in the recent World Trade Fair 2010

Cebu Philippines, was named ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ at the Awards Night, of the recent World Trade Fair 2010 held in Shanghai, China.

Cebu is the Philippines second most visited tourist destinations

Cebu, with only a three percent growth in its tourist arrivals, dropped to second place in the top tourist destinations in the country as of the first quarter of the year, the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) quarterly report said.

Cebu came in second after Manila.

Cebu had 435,087 tourists while Manila has 437,170 during the period.  In 2009, Cebu was the top destination while Manila was third.

During the first quarter of the year, Manila’s number of tourists increased by 37.10 percent. The DOT credited the growth to more international and local meetings, congresses and conventions, as well as special events organized by major companies and organizations in the capital.

The opening of new spots in Manila like the Manila Oceanarium, the Newport Entertainment City and the visits of more cruise ships at Manila South Harbor also attracted more tourists. Continue Reading

Cebu tourism players target Middle East market

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is hoping for a “good pick-up” in arrivals to Cebu from the Middle Eat this year, after its promotion during a Philippine Tourism Road Show last March.

Philippine Department of Tourism lights up Cebu Heritage monument

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has completed the P2-million restoration of the Cebu Cultural Heritage Monument in the historic Barangay Parian district which is now lighted at night and available for viewing to tourists and locals alike who want to revisit key events in Cebu’s history.

DOT Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano said that if the rehabilitation of the monument turns out to be his last project as tourism chief, it is one he will be proud of.

Guimaras Manggahan Festival 2010 showcases local celebrations

The provincial government of Guimaras here showcases the various municipal and barangay celebrations during its Manggahan Festival that kicked off April 5.

The island-province boasts of at least 21 annual local celebrations ranging from municipal level fair of ‘Asinan Festival’ to the more prominent ‘Ang Pagtaltal Sa Balaan Bukid.’

Guimaras, aside from its main mango produce, also celebrates 10 barangay-level festivals. These are the Banigan Festival, Bayuhan Festival, Kadagatan Festival, Karosahan Festival, Layagan Festival, Rosas Sa Baybayon Festival, Sarangola Festival, Sibiran Festival, Pangasi Festival, and Niyogyogan Festival. Bohol Welcomes the Peacock

Ace Durano along with DOT regional director Dawnie Roa and top local government officials led by Gov. Erico Aumentado, Rep. Boracay business owners urge Philippine Tourism Authority to start Phase 2 of drainage system project

Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2010 kicks off in Iloilo Sunday

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta, dubbed as Asia’s oldest and largest sailing competition in search for a “perfect wind” is set to kick here on Sunday.

The sailing competition, now on its 38th year, is not only a showcase of the seamanship of Ilonggos but it will also highlight the culture of the residents of Iloilo.

This year’s competition has for its theme, “Honoring Proud Filipino Seafaring Traditions.”

Tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta said the sailboat race makes use of boats with outrigger that were also used “centuries ago designed for energy conservation.” Continue Reading

Philippine Department of Tourism promotes Boracay rock as tourism landmark

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has pledged to include the new grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary in what now to be considered as the Boracay rock as one of the tourism landmarks in this resort island.

Boracay Parish priest Fr. Maglore Placer said that tourism officials had called him and vowed to include the Boracay rock in its tourism promotions around the world.
