Baguio City Councilor Pinky Rondez on Tuesday observed that Benguet Province’s eco-tourism drew hundreds of visitors during the recent Holy Week.

Ambuklao Dam
The local tourism leader said that Benguet’s eco-tourism campaign focused on the attractiveness of its mountains, springs, dams and waterfalls.
“Several families spent days of picnics at forests in Bokod town overlooking the giant Ambuclao Dam, others went to savor the medicinal hot springs and swimming pools of Asin, Tuba, Benguet; others found their way climbing Mount Ugo and Mount Pulag in Mankayan; while the rest enjoyed the natural swimming pools of Itogon, Benguet,” Rondez observed. The 7,107 islands of the Philippines sit on what some consider the “center of global marine biodiversity”, and more dive enthusiasts are catching on.
With its abundance of wildlife, the Philippines is a biodiversity hotspot in its entirety, one of only a few countries in the world with such distinction. It is also one of six whose waters comprise the Coral Triangle, the richest collection of marine life anywhere on the planet.

Puerto Galera Dive Sites
Here, the world’s most diverse array of corals and reef fish – three-fourths of all coral species and over 2,000 varieties of fish, to be exact – populate the sea. There’s even more upon closer inspection, as the array of wildlife includes everything from dolphins to crustaceans, sea slugs to eels. The variety of creatures is simply staggering. Continue Reading

The cloudy skies and brief rain showers here Wednesday made the cool weather more appealing to the visitors from foreign countries like Australia and Europe, according to the city tourism office (CTO).
Gabby Keith of the CTO said “our monitoring indicates that we continue to have a good number of local and foreign visitors at this time of the year especially with parents of returning students for their summer classes.”

Baguio City
Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) explained that the early rain showers were brought by passing clouds in the area due to a system called “high pressure” northeast of Luzon.
Baguio temperature ranges from 14 to 26 degrees celsius with the least expected rain showers and cloudy periods.
In past years, unexpected rains during hot months of the year here happened that the residents were not surprised with the brief downpour this morning especially at the central business district.
Although the prolonged drought known as “El Niño” phenomenon has caused the city to experience 30 degrees celsius as the highest temperature this year, the maximum temperature since last week had already lowered to 25 to 26 degrees celsius.

Mayon Volcano in Albay
By Ariel Allosada Allera
My favorite movie Kailangan Kita (I Need You) was shown on PBO recently. Claudine Barreto and Aga Muhlach were right on the money. Not only did they justify their lead roles, they likewise made perfect partners in promoting tourism in Bicol, where the film was entirely shot. Most scenes visited me, reminding me of the wonderful memories I have of my Sorsogon-Albay sojourn a few summers back—courtesy of Cebu Holiday Tours and Travel’s Ricky Tio.
The journey from Cebu to Masbate to Sorsogon seemed eternal. But all the stress paid off when I arrived in Donsol town, province of Sorsogon, excited to have the first leg of my tour which was the Butanding interaction. Continue Reading

Following their arrival in the country to celebrate the New Year, Russians have been seen in droves at the country’s top spa and wellness sites and dive destinations.
“Our Russian tourists have initially planned to celebrate the holidays here and escape the harsh winter in their country. But our premiere spa sites and dive destinations have persuaded them to stay much longer,” said Ace Durano, Secretary of Tourism.
Russia’s major travel stakeholders, Sputnik Travel and Magellan Tours, and local ground handler Blue Horizons Travel and Tours, brought the guests to Boracay, Cebu, Bohol and Puerto Galera. Continue Reading
