National Geographic and a French TV crew to cover Sinulog festival 2011

Sinulog will gain more international exposure this year, with a French TV news team and a National Geographic writer documenting the grand parade and other religious activities.

Photographers from Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and other countries also have joined some 1,800 participants of the Sinulog photo contest.

For the first time, the National Geographic will feature the Sinulog in its magazine, which is distributed worldwide.

Kalibo now ready for Ati-atihan Festival 2011

Kalibo’s Ati-atihan Festival, observed in the third week of January every year, is considered as the mother of all Philippine festivals and fiestas.

Guimaras Manggahan Festival 2010 showcases local celebrations

The provincial government of Guimaras here showcases the various municipal and barangay celebrations during its Manggahan Festival that kicked off April 5.

The island-province boasts of at least 21 annual local celebrations ranging from municipal level fair of ‘Asinan Festival’ to the more prominent ‘Ang Pagtaltal Sa Balaan Bukid.’

Guimaras, aside from its main mango produce, also celebrates 10 barangay-level festivals. These are the Banigan Festival, Bayuhan Festival, Kadagatan Festival, Karosahan Festival, Layagan Festival, Rosas Sa Baybayon Festival, Sarangola Festival, Sibiran Festival, Pangasi Festival, and Niyogyogan Festival. ‘Treasures of the North’ to spice up Dagupan Bangus Festival

A new and exciting event will spice up this year’s Dagupan Bangus Festival 2010 slated on April 16 to May 1.

This is the “Yaman ng Norte” (Treasures of the North) Agri-Trade that will showcase the ‘One Town, One Product” (OTOP) program of every city and municipality in Northern Luzon to be held at the air-conditioned CSI Stadia from April 27 to 30.

Cebu, Mindanao and Ilocos products available in Panagbenga Festival 2010 Trade Fair

Native products from Cebu, Mindanao and Ilocos region are among the items with the highest sales in various trade fairs in the on-going Baguio Flower Festival 2010 according to The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Art Tibaldo, DTI information officer, said this was determined since last year and “it remains the same in the Market Encounter of the Panagbenga Festival 2010.” Among the saleable products of Cebu are preserved mango and other tropical fruits; while the fresh and processed durian like candies from Mindanao area take a big percentage in daily sales. Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2010 kicks off in Iloilo Sunday

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta, dubbed as Asia’s oldest and largest sailing competition in search for a “perfect wind” is set to kick here on Sunday.

The sailing competition, now on its 38th year, is not only a showcase of the seamanship of Ilonggos but it will also highlight the culture of the residents of Iloilo.

This year’s competition has for its theme, “Honoring Proud Filipino Seafaring Traditions.”

Tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta said the sailboat race makes use of boats with outrigger that were also used “centuries ago designed for energy conservation.” Continue Reading
