Department of Tourism office in Beijing awarded best in destination promotions

The Department of Tourism office in Beijing, China (DOT Beijing) was recently given the ‘Best Destination Promotions’ Award by the China Travel Agent (CTA) Magazine in recognition of tourism promotional and marketing activities undertaken by the Philippines in China. This is the fourth year that DOT Beijing has won the award for the Philippines.

The annual Destination Promotions award is being judged by CTA Magazine’s editorial board based on the quantity, quality and effectiveness of tourism promotional activities undertaken during the year by the national tourism organizations (NTOs). The finalists are screened by selected airlines and major tour wholesalers with whom the NTOs have worked with or who have benefited from said tourism activities. Continue Reading

A new and exciting event will spice up this year’s Dagupan Bangus Festival 2010 slated on April 16 to May 1.

This is the “Yaman ng Norte” (Treasures of the North) Agri-Trade that will showcase the ‘One Town, One Product” (OTOP) program of every city and municipality in Northern Luzon to be held at the air-conditioned CSI Stadia from April 27 to 30.

Philippine Travel Tour Expo 2010 draws 110,000 visitors

The latest edition of the annual Philippine Travel Tour Expo (TTE) posted a record number of visitors during its three-day run at the SMX Convention Center, the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) said Tuesday.

TTE chairman and former PTAA president Jose Clemente III said more than 110,000 visitors went to the seventeenth edition of the expo, representing a huge 86.44 percent jump from 2009.

“We were very much overwhelmed by the public response to this year’s Philippine Travel Tour Expo. The turnout at the expo is very much indicative that Philippine tourism has now turned a corner and is now ready to surge,” Clemente said. Continue Reading

Aboitiz Transport System acquires two more RORO ships

Aboitiz Transport System (ATS), one of the country’s largest shipping operators, has purchased two second-hand roll-on/roll-off (RORO) passenger vessels from Japan worth $ 7.5 million each.

The MV Sunflower Kogane from The Diamond Ferry Co, Ltd. Oita, Japan and MV Sunflower Nishiki from Kansai Kisen Kaisha each has a 9,700 gross tonnage, 400-twenty-foot equivalent unit capacity and can carry about 2,000 passengers. Delivery is expected next month.

“Aiming towards operational excellence, the vessel purchase is intended to modernize its current fleet to achieve greater efficiencies,” ATS said in its disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange. Continue Reading
